Networking concepts (video collection)

This is a video collection to learn networking concepts. For the sake of this collection, I'll start by the basic concepts and add videos over time.

OSI Model

Lets start with something called the OSI model:

Level 1

The physical layer is often copper wires for the average use, which pulse power on and off to send messages. These power pules create on and off signals which are called binary, lets have a look at how it works:

Level 2

Now that we know Binary is at the physical layer, lets have a look at the next layer. Here the binary is built in to frames. Think of a frame as a word as part of a bigger sentence, but the full sentence cannot fit in one frame. Lets take a quick look at what these frames look like:

Practically speaking, we do not really care about frames during our day to day lives. We do however care for MAC addresses and how they are used.

Level 3

We are now at the network layer, which means that we can look at IP addresses. IP addresses are calculated in binary and therefore we'll have a look at how to do subnetting using binary.

Here is a nice overview visual representation of subnetting and the groupings of it.
